The practice
A Practice Built Around Judgment, Not Deliverables
Vizianary advises leadership teams at companies whose growth has outpaced the story they were founded on. The work is diagnostic before it is creative: understand the decision the company is avoiding, then help it make that decision well.
Most companies do not arrive with a positioning problem. They arrive with a symptom: a sales cycle that has become harder to explain, a product portfolio that reads as a list, an investor conversation that requires too much translation, or a leadership team that answers the same question five different ways.
Those symptoms usually share a cause. The company changed and the story did not. What was accurate at forty people is imprecise at four hundred, and imprecision compounds — in hiring, in pricing, in what gets built, in what the board believes it owns.
This practice exists for that moment. It is deliberately small, senior, and limited in the number of engagements it takes at one time, because the value is in attention and judgment rather than throughput.
The question is rarely how to say it better. It is what the company has decided to be.
What we believe
Positions Held, Not Slogans
These are working convictions. They shape which engagements are accepted and how the work is run.
- 01
Positioning is a leadership decision, not a messaging exercise. It determines what the company will and will not pursue.
- 02
A company's story fragments quietly. Nobody announces it; sales, product, and the board simply begin describing different companies.
- 03
Clarity is expensive because it requires giving something up. Most stalled narratives are unresolved trade-offs, not weak copy.
- 04
Advice is only useful if it can be acted on by the people in the room. Elegant strategy that no executive can carry is not strategy.
- 05
The work ends when the decision is made and held, not when the document is delivered.
How the practice works
- Engagements are led personally. There is no delegation to a junior team after the pitch.
- Every engagement begins with listening — to executives, to the market record, to what customers already say the company is.
- Diagnosis is stated plainly, including when it contradicts the reason we were hired.
- Recommendations come with the trade-off attached. A position that costs nothing is not a position.
- Work concludes with the leadership team able to defend the decision without us in the room.
What this practice is not
- Not an agency. There is no production line, no campaign retainer, no creative department.
- Not a research vendor. Research supports judgment; it does not replace it.
- Not a fractional marketing function. The work is upstream of marketing execution.
- Not a fit for companies seeking validation of a decision already made.
Leadership
Who You Work With
Engagements are led by the practice's principal, working directly with the executive team.
